Also known as sodium bicarbonate, baking soda is an ingredient used extensively in toothpaste to clean teeth, scrub away stains, and reduce bacteria. In order to use the baking soda treatment at home, prepare a mixture with 1 teaspoon of baking soda and two teaspoons of water. Brush your teeth with this mixture and your toothpaste. Another way is to use baking soda with salt or apple cider vinegar, which helps remove plaque and kill bacteria.
2.Lemon Juice and Peels
Lemon juice and peels are also great options to whiten teeth as they contain citric acid which has natural teeth bleaching characteristics. Therefore, brushing your teeth with lemon juice or rubbing the peels on the teeth can help in removing teeth stains. You can also use citrus fruits like oranges to whiten teeth. However, note that the application of strong citric acid can damage the enamel of teeth, leading to tooth decay.
Another way to whiten teeth is to use hydrogen peroxide – a natural bleaching agent. You can gargle with it by swishing it all across your mouth and then rinse your mouth with cold water. Another technique of using it is by gently brushing your teeth with a mixture of two teaspoons of the compound with one teaspoon of baking soda. However, limit the use of this paste as too much can erode your tooth enamel.
Strawberries are mashed and rubbed over teeth to remove teeth stains. The fruit contains a substance called malic acid which helps in cleaning teeth and removing discoloration. On the other hand, strawberries could cause wear and tear of the teeth enamel and teeth decay due to the sugar present in the fruit.
Cucumber, broccoli, celery, radish, and carrots are known to be good for your body as well as your teeth. They greatly help in reducing the discoloration in teeth and removing the plaque and tartar, thereby bringing back the white gloss of your teeth. Not only this, the use of these vegetables for teeth whitening cause no side effects.
The potassium hydroxide in wood ash acts as a bleaching agent and whitens teeth quickly. Therefore, wood ash can be used in place of toothpaste every day. However, note that the potassium may damage the teeth enamel over time and so limit the use of wood ash to once or twice a week.
